The collection of ferns and lycophytes at the Maranhão Herbarium (MAR) currently has 100 records, which are of great scientific, ecological and conservational relevance. These plant groups, among the oldest in the evolutionary history of plants, are essential for understanding the diversity and dynamics of tropical ecosystems. In Maranhão, where there is a rich transition between biomes, this collection represents an important record of the regional flora, contributing to studies in taxonomy, ecology, biogeography and conservation. In addition to supporting academic research, the MAR collection plays a strategic role in valuing Maranhão's natural heritage and encouraging environmental and scientific education.
