The herbarium of the Federal University of Western Bahia (UFOB),
whose official acronym is BRBA, was founded on April 17, 2007, in
honor of National Botany Day. Currently, the collection holds more
than 8,000 specimens of Brazilian flora, primarily collected in the
Western Bahia region, an extensive area of the state characterized
by predominant cerrado vegetation, as well as other types such as
deciduous seasonal forests (dry forests) and vegetation typical of
karst terrain. The collection features a significant assortment of
bryophytes from the region, and the most prominent family in
terms of the number of collections is Leguminosae.
