Registered by the Index Herbarium with the acronym CEN. Since 2005 is in a building that has facilities which include, the main collection and duplicates, room mounting specimens, library, plant systematics laboratory and documentation room, covering approximately 730m². The Herbarium CEN is registered in the International Association for Plant Taxonomy - IAPT and in 2005 was accredited as depository collection by the Board of Genetic Patrimony (CGEN/MMA), by the Resolution no. 88. The collection of the Herbarium CEN includes a dynamic collection of more than 85 thousand registered herbarium specimens, whose main focus is on plants of economic interest, especially those belonging to the Cerrado, Amazon and Caatinga. Also has vouchers of floristic inventory and of the germplasm deposited in collections of Embrapa. For the past 22 years, the Herbarium CEN has performed projects related to inventory biodiversity and germplasm collection in areas under impact. Because of past and present existence at Herbarium CEN of specialists in specific taxonomic groups, the collection is particularly rich in Arecaceae, Asteraceae, Dioscoreaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Leguminosae, Lythraceae, Ochnaceae, Orchidaceae and Poaceae, with very important collections of Arachis, Capsicum, Cuphea, Diplusodon, Manihot, Mimosa, Ouratea, Paspalum and Stylosanthes, for some of which the collection of the Herbarium CEN is considered one of the most complete. The collection also includes 210 type-specimens of various groups and a collection of preserved fruits of about 350 samples. The Herbarium CEN is also active in coordinating the "Flora of the Federal District, Brazil " which has produced ten volumes of monographs about the flora of the Federal District. More than 85% of the collection have information available online.
