The Embrapa Eastern Amazon Entomological Museum, created in the 70's, is located in Belém, PA. It occupies two rooms with an area of approx. 50 m2, with controlled temperature and air humidity. It is composed of specimens of beneficial insects (pollinators and natural enemies) and pests (phytophagous) associated with the main crops, timber trees and natural forests of the Eastern Amazon. The current collection consists of about 55,000 specimens, mostly preserved dry (in a pin), in conventional entomological cabinets and drawers, and a small portion in liquid medium (alcohol), consisting of immature insects, termites, ants and soil mesofauna, resulting from collections carried out in the states of Amapá, Amazonas, Maranhão and Pará (mostly), in natural and agricultural systems. The bees (Apoidea superfamily) represent about 1/3 of the collection (ca. 14,000 specimens), most of which are made up of orchid bees, tribe Euglossini. It was accredited in 2011 as Faithful Depository of Genetic Heritage Component Samples. It is in the process of digitization in electronic database, with the main focus on bees.
