Funed-Serp - Coleção Científica de Serpentes

FUNED - Fundação Ezequiel Dias
Unidade de Coleções Científicas e Popularização da Ciência
Belo Horizonte - MG - Brazil

The collection of snakes from the Ezequiel Dias Foundation started in 1987, counting today with 2809 specimens, probably the largest collection of snakes in the state of Minas Gerais. By having an excellent representation of the diversity of snakes in the state, this collection is visited frequently and many specimens are lent to researchers from other institutions. Thus, the Scientific Collection of Snakes of Funed can contribute to studies of taxonomy, biogeography, ecology and natural history. Nine families and 133 species of snakes have been registered. About 90% of the collection consists of snakes collected in the state of Minas Gerais.
