The Herbário Plantas Mantiqueira (HM) was formally established in 2023, although the collection has been assembled since 2014 within the Botany Laboratory of the Federal University of Itajubá (UNIFEI). The herbarium was initially developed as a teaching collection and focused on specimens originating primarily from the Serra da Mantiqueira region in southeastern Brazil.
HM is dedicated to supporting botanical research, teaching, and biodiversity documentation, with an emphasis on the Atlantic Forest domain. The collection includes specimens chiefly from Semideciduous Seasonal Forest, Ombrophilous Forest, and floodplain environments.
The herbarium currently comprises 945 accessioned specimens, predominantly Angiosperms. Approximately 350 additional samples are in the process of incorporation. Digitization of the registered specimens is ongoing.
