The RADAMBRASIL herbarium (acronym HRB) was created in 1980, primarily to meet the need to support phytoecological surveys throughout the country by the then RADAMBRASIL project, as well as to compose an irrefutable documentary of our floristic richness. Starting in 1986, with the end of the RADAMBRASIL project, the HRB became part of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Under the administration of the IBGE, the HRB collection expanded and, in addition to the invaluable collection of the RADAMBRASIL project, the herbarium also has a large representation of the flora of Bahia and the Northeast. The herbarium has approximately 63 thousand records in its registry books, of which approximately 86% are computerized. Currently, the HRB is the herbarium associated with the Salvador Botanical Garden, where it has been installed since 2004, located at Avenida São Rafael S/N, São Marcos, Salvador, Bahia, ZIP code 41253-245.
