The Maranhão Herbarium (MAR) collection, currently containing 127 individuals, is a specialized collection of fruits that significantly complements the institution's botanical collection. This collection is essential for morphological, taxonomic and anatomical studies, aiding in the identification and characterization of plant species, especially regional flora. In a state with a high diversity of plant formations and a great wealth of native fruit species, the MAR collection also contributes to ethnobotanical, agroecological and conservation research. In addition, it plays an important role in scientific education and in enhancing knowledge about Maranhão's plant resources.
