The ethnobotanical collection of the Maranhão Herbarium (MAR), with 62 records — of which 47 are already computerized — represents an important source of knowledge about the relationships between human communities and the regional flora. This collection documents the traditional use of plants by communities, covering medicinal, food, ritual, craft and construction applications. In a state marked by rich cultural and biological diversity, the MAR ethnobotanical collection is essential for the appreciation of traditional knowledge, contributing to research in ethnobotany, biocultural conservation, sustainable use policies and environmental education. It is a living record of the interaction between nature and culture in Maranhão.
