The collection has above 26.000 catalogued specimens. The material is prepared in dry entomological pins and placed in drawers lined with high density foam and/or insect box, arranged in cabinets in a cooled room. The emphasis of the collection is on species from the Rio Grande do Sul state. It also has specimens from several regions of Brazil and some representatives from other countries and continents. It has broad representation of specimens of Lepidoptera from areas of environmental preservation of the Rio Grande do Sul (State and Federal Parks and other conservation units). The main groups are Lepidoptera, Mantodea, Hemiptera e Orthoptera, which are richly represented by species of Rio Grande do Sul, many of which are present only in this insect collection. The collection of types has 35 holotypes and 43 paratypes.
