The MPUC Herbarium has 14,700 species recorded, 94% of species are from Brazil, among which 79% from Rio Grande do Sul, 19% from Santa Catarina, and 22% from other states, with representatives from the following formations: Seasonal Semi-Deciduous Forest, Deciduous Forest, Campos de Cima da Serra and areas of ecological tension in Porto Alegre and around. Angiosperm is the group most represented in the collection, followed by Lichenized Fungi (Lichens), Pteridophytes, Algae, Basidiomycetous Fungi, Bryophytes and Gymnosperms.
Part of the specimens compose a historical collection that marks the beginning of the herbarium with specimens collected between 1930 and 1960. In the collection there are representatives of the invaders of irrigated rice of culture in RS, representatives of economic value, and the flora of the Research Center and Nature Conservation Pró-Mata, São Francisco de Paula, RS. The Herbarium also has plants from locations of environmental impacts caused by construction of Hydroelectric Power Plants. In the collection of lichenized fungi, 50% of specimens were collected in areas of environmental impact, especially in RS.
The collection has 4 isotype, 1 paratype and 2 isoparatype.
