The colletion is being organized in compactors , in alphabetical order by families. It is registered on Index Herbariorum as R,
and has around 550.000 samples, being 95% of vascular plants. Besides the numbers of the collections, the Herbarium has great historical
importance for having contributors such as Glaziou, Freire Allemão, Brade, Hoehne, Lutz, Riedel, Schwacke, Sellow, and the Emperor Pedro II himself.
In this universe of collected specimens, the collections from Legal Amazon Raiforest, expeditions of Marshall Rondon, Alberto Sampaio, Polo
Noroeste, Alto Xingu, Fernando de Noronha, Restinga de Jurubatiba National Park, among others, deserve to be mentioned. The nomenclatural type
collection holds a total of 5.600 samples, and is part of the Latin-American Plants Initiative (LAPI) project, organized by the Mellon Foundation.
