Solanaceae Source is a taxonomically authoritative dataset focused on the nightshade family Solanaceae. The data comprises species descriptions, images, synonymy, classification, and taxonomically verified specimen records of Solanaceae. The dataset includes 1,505 species descriptions, 14,258 names (incl. synonymy), and over 233,000 specimen records from all over the world from 549 herbaria. Only records originating from South America are represented in speciesLink, and there are currently 32,814 specimens from Brazil. in the database. The dataset is strongest for the genus Solanum, but ongoing work in other genera is enriching those as we proceed. The data is available on the Solanaceae Source website (http://www.solanaceaesource.org) and is being built into a new GBIF Hosted Data Portal (https://solanaceae.hp.gbif-staging.org/).
