The UALF herbarium at the Federal University of Alfenas was created in 2008 and has more than 3,000 spermatophyte specimens. The collection, located in the south of Minas Gerais, presents data found in phytogeographic domains of the Atlantic Forest and Cerrado and their respective phytophysiognomies. Exsiccates refer to records of plant species in projects, covering research in botany, ecology, genetics, pharmacy, chemistry and related areas. In addition to contributing to research, the collection's records also serve as a fundamental tool for teaching subjects related to plant life. The samples are all defined according to APG IV and the families with the greatest representation of herbarium sheets in the UALF herbarium are: Myrtaceae, Fabaceae, Rubiaceae and Meliaceae.
