Campinas - SP - Brazil
The Bivalvia collection of the Museum of Zoology "Prof. Adão José Cardoso" located at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP) has approximately 30 lots with 200 recorded specimens and about 27,000 not recorded yet. The material is preserved mainly in alcohol 70%, including holotypes and paratypes. There are specimens from several Brazilian regions, mainly Southeast and South, which represents an important sample for these areas. The collection consists of material from recent research projects, such as Biota/FAPESP - Bentos Marinho (www.biota.org.br) and REVIZEE/Score Sul Bentos (www.mma.gov.br/revizee). The cataloging and digitalization of the collection are in progress using the MS-Access data bank manager. Most part of the collection has a scientific purpose, destined to researchers interested in Bivalvia. However, it is available for graduating and post-graduating students. The museum has also collections to borrow, exchange and with educational purpose.
