The Ophiuroidea collection of the Museum of Zoology "Prof. Adão José Cardoso" located at the Universidade
Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP) has approximately 400 lots with 1,500 recorded specimens and about 50,000 not recorded yet. The
material is preserved in alcohol 70%, including holotypes and paratypes. There are specimens from several Brazilian regions (mainly
Southeast and South), others countries, such as Uruguay, which represents an important sample for these areas. The collection consists
of material from recent research projects, such as Biota/FAPESP - Bentos Marinho (www.biota.org.br), REVIZEE/Score Sul Bentos
(www.mma.gov.br/revizee) and INTEGRADO/Subprojeto Bentos. The cataloging and digitalization of the collection are in progress using
the MS-Access data bank manager. Most part of the collection has a scientific purpose, destined to researchers interested in
Ophiuroidea. However, it is available for graduating and post-graduating students. The museum has also collections to borrow, exchange
and with educational purpose.
