The Polychaete Collection of the Museum of Zoology "Prof. Adão José Cardoso", at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP), currently has about 14.000 lots and approximately 100.000 cataloged specimens and about 80.000 uncatalogued specimens. The material is preserved mainly in 70% alcohol, but specimens kept in slides or preparations for SEM (scanning electron microscopy) are part of the collection. The type
collection (holotypes, paratypes, syntypes and paraneotypes) has 63 species, in about 290 lots. There are specimens from all regions of Brazil
(mainly Southeast and South), but material from South Africa, Argentina, Australia, Madagascar, Antarctica and France are present in the
collection, as well. This collection contains polychaetes from large projects in Brazil, since 1980. The collection is available (http://www.ib.unicamp.br/museu_zoologia/colecoes) for researchers interested in the study of Polychaeta, as well as for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
