The Vale Natural Reserve, a remnant of the Atlantic Forest located in the northern region of the state of Espírito Santo, is considered one of the centers of high diversity and endemism in Brazil, and also one of the most protected conservation areas in South America. The Insect Collection was initiated between 1978, 1986, and 1991, in partnership with a project with the Department of Entomology at the Federal University of Viçosa. Since then, the collection has been enriched with occasional collections and following all the criteria of an archive. Currently, the collection has about 12,573 specimens distributed across various orders of insects.
