The phanerogam collection of the Herbarium MAR is the main component of its collection, with a strategic focus on documenting the flora of the phytogeographic domains of Maranhão: Restingas, Cerrados and the Amazon region of Maranhão. It currently has 14,397 computerized records. The collection is essential for understanding the flora of a unique ecological transition region in Brazil. In addition, it houses specimens of at least five endangered species on the official list of the Ministry of the Environment, including Peltogyne maranhensis and Virola surinamensis, highlighting their crucial role in biodiversity conservation.

Conditions for using the data

The collection of the Herbarium of Maranhão (MAR) cannot have its data sold. The disclosure of pieces of information relating to assessments made in the Herbarium, the Trustee or taxonomist, including the citation of names of researchers, must be reported to the responsible Herbarium.
